In a Fall State of Mind: Home Decor Floral Inspired

Sunday, September 27, 2015

Ah fall.

Where the leaves change + the weather gets crisp.

At least that's how it is for almost everyone where else in America this time of the year, but here in Nevada, were still hitting the triple digits.

No matter the triple digit weather, autumn is my favorite, and I'm definitely in an autumn state of mind.

Speaking of fall, today I wanted to talk about my love for home decor + show you some of the beautiful floral inspiration that I've come across.

First things first, I wanted to say thank you to BloomNation for even asking for my input on how I incorporate floral inspiration into my home + what kind of floral eye candy works well for my style. BloomNation is an online community marketplace for local florists, they cater to all your floral needs by handcrafting beautiful unique bouquets. You can type in your zip code to search local florists & choose the bouquet of your liking through their website.

If you would like to learn more about BloomNation + what they do please click here. Other wise, read on! ;)

If you are just now learning about my blog + myself, allow me to let you to tell you a little about me + my life. I am a proud military wife of an United States Airman. We've been stationed in Nevada for 2 years now, and we've been in our apartment for about a year. In the past, I have bought the "cheap" decor, thinking it would be easier on our wallets, but I wasn't thinking long term, + I'm still adding new things to our apartment to make it more home-y to this day. The great part about decorating is being able to express yourself, it's like clothes for our homes + besides it's great to find new ways to add a bit of your own personality to your home.

A lot of people don't know where to start, especially in an apartment because you're limited on what you can + can't do. I did a post before hand on what I find easier to make your home feel more like a home, I didn't include flowers, but I sure should have, flowers add a since of class + wholeness to your home. Whether it be real or fake - what ever your budget allows, flowers help your home feel like home. You can add them to your living room coffee table, side table, your dining room table, in the kitchen, or in your bedroom + guest rooms. I am partial to sunflowers, they just seem so happy + full of life, which is my philosophy for life, live it to the fullest. I've decorated for fall + have incorporated my favorite sunflowers. Most of my decor, I have pre-bought. I try to use what I have, or what I can find on sale, for at a good price.

I have shopped in: Ross, Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, Home Goods, Kirklands, + Kohl's. My tip is also, if you like something, buy it. That is if you cannot DIY, or it cost that much if not more DIY-ing it.

I love fresh flowers in the fall + in the spring, my bouquet for the living room has sunflowers, mums, + more. It definitely is fit for fall + beautiful eye candy. It's the perfect balance of fall + decor which incorporates my favorite flowers!

Now what are my top 5 favorite floral decor eye candy? I list them below! (In no special order, they're all great!)

  1. French Country Cottage had very beautiful antique + charm about her fall decor that was simple, yet so timeless.

Story Of Our Apartment + How To Make Your Apartment Feel More Like Home

Sunday, August 9, 2015

When I said yes to marrying my husband knowing he was going into the Military, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I just knew I loved this amazing man and I would've followed him to the moon and back if he asked. The wedding planning part was a rush, I was stressed out because his schedule wasn't wrote in stone and you never write it in stone, we didn't know what tomorrow would hold, but we were excited to find out.

When I said I do to my man in uniform, it went by in a flash, before I knew it he was on his way just days after our wedding to our first base in Nevada. Of course we had to get an apartment, or live on base, but there were no houses available at the time for us, so we were wait listed. We ended up getting a 2-Bedroom in our first set of apartments. To say it was small would be an understatement. We both agreed, long-term we needed something at least a little bigger, or at least a more open floor plan.

Fast forward months and months later, we finally signed the paperwork for our new apartment and moved in. It had the open floor plan we wanted, a little more money than our old apartments, but it definitely has felt more like home since we've been here (a little over a year). Not only does the floor plan work well for us space wise, but design wise it's nice as well. I love to put little personal touches on it and I have upgraded a lot since we first moved in.

I wanted to post a few tips + favorite things that I have learned when making an apartment feel like home.

Lots and Lots Pictures + Picture Frames

These both can be decorative and personal. My favorite thing to do is buy the frames I really want with a coupon or when they are on sale at Michaels. Of course I shop else where like Home Good for frames, but honestly I have found out here, Michaels has different but similar styles so they match without all being the same boring patterns.

Decorative Pillows

These can be a little pricy depending on the type and where you find them. I love to mix match patterns and colors that are within my color scheme, but be-careful of clashing patterns. Take photos of different ones, or if they are in the same store match them up right then and there! when all else fails, find out the stores return policy.

Candles

Get candles that remind you of thing you like. I'm just a tad obsessed with anything coffee/espresso smelling, so generally I always find some kind of coffee candle to keep my home smelling like a small quaint coffee shop.

Monograms

This may just be the southern girl in me, but I have found no matter if it's our last name, our initials, or just a simple first letter of our last name, this personalizes all throughout our house.

Comfy Decorative Rugs

I made the mistake of buying a cheap rug and let me tell you that rug had over stayed its welcome. So we invested in a rug at Home Depot. It's both super soft and even has a pretty pattern on it. Don't settle on this, trust me. Invest the money on one of your liking.

DON'T SETTLE

Lastly, don't settle on anything unless the apartment or home you want is just too expensive. That's another deal, but what I mean is if you can't DIY, invest in it. Make a home, not just a place to stay.

Adventures In: Savannah, GA

Wednesday, July 29, 2015

Hey y'all! if you are just now visiting my blog, first, welcome! And Adventures In...is a segment documenting places I have traveled to and telling about my experience at said place. While back home in South Carolina, my husband, parents, and I spent the day in Savannah, Georgia. Being a former design student, I knew Savannah for SCAD (Savannah College Of Art & Design) and of course another hot spot for amazing southern cuisine, but don't be alarmed, Savannah is much more just art & food, there is something for everyone & tons of stuff or activities to do!

To be truthfully honest, we mostly just walked around. Our wait at The Lady & Son's, which is also known as the famous restaurant owned by none other than queen of southern cuisine herself, Paula Deen, took a waiting time of 3 hours to even see a plate of food. I may now suggest making a reservation ASAP, especially during the summer. We all ended up eating the buffet and yes, we did enjoy it, but I wouldn't wait 3 hours to eat it again. It was more about the experience to cross it off of my bucket list.

After eating, we just took a stroll around the area, enjoying the scenery. I mostly enjoyed the trees and the sunshine, and just the simple things that money can't buy. It was nice to see more than just desert and be with my family for a little while. We also had to stop in the candy store and watch the candy get made, because it's oh so fascinating and I swore I literally could feel my teeth rotting out though because of how much sugar was in the air. LOL. My sweet tooth, can't help but crave chocolate and pralines though. :)

All in all, it was a successful day. Thank y'all for coming along on our Adventure in Savannah. Till later, alligator. ;)

Country Music Festival Must-Haves + Tips!

Friday, May 22, 2015

Hey Y'all!! I've been to enough concerts and music festivals to know what should and shouldn't be brought. That is why on today's blog, I decided to give y'all my guide of what to bring and what to leave at home, as well as tips + tricks! Enjoy!

Need to save your phone battery?

Usually this is my number one priority because I'm a huge social media enthusiast. I really do have a problem where I get so distracted by social media. My tips are: use your phone usage wisely (wait to text people back, hold out when you want to use those fun photo apps, also do not record all the music on video if you want your phone to last! this will drain your battery faster), Close all apps on your phone when not using, wait to post a majority of your photos till the end of the night/the next morning (trust me on this). Also, If you need to check the time, wear a watch instead, this way you don't keep clicking your phone on! (Don't forget to bring your car charger and wall charger but leave in car because not every festival has a charging place)

What To Get Info on Before the Actual Festival Starts:

  • Parking/shuttle (this is always a major problem with any major event with a lot of people)
  • Good cheap food places around the Festival just incase you decide not to spend an arm and leg on that expensive festival food because lets face it 5 dollars for corn on the cob seems pretty expensive when you just spent all that money on a shuttle pass and your ticket to even go to the event.
  • Make sure if you are staying at a hotel to look how far the distance is from the actual festival (I'm sure if you are an avid concert/festival goer, you already know this lol but this is without assuming you're staying at a camp ground)
  • the closest Starbucks or coffee shop because if it's a 3-Day event, you're going to need it since you're probably going to be getting up in the mornings after staying out late (count for traffic, nobody can prepare you for that, it's inevitable)
  • The Weather! (rain or shine performances all day of everyday)
  • If there is an app! (this will help instead of carrying a paper of all the times, be sure to map out which performances you want to go to & a rough idea when you take a lunch/dinner break)

Should I Bring a Purse or No?

I personally only carry around a small satchel or a wristlet for my I.D. & Money. You don't need to bring anything major really, it's a drag carrying a huge purse around all day especially during the summer festivals...Trust me you'll thank me later. ;) (You can also carry around a small back pack to your liking, but it will be checked when you get to the gate)

Want to bring a camera/folding chair/cooler/weapons?

Usually all but the folding chair is banned from most of the music festivals, but not all, just make sure on the websites. I wish that they would let camera's in, but that's only wishful thinking (I'm a shutterbug). I also know this goes without saying but leave all the weapons at home, because just because someone cut you in the beer line it doesn't give you a right to cut or shank them, yes they are crappy for doing that, but trust me, just enjoy the music. :)

What should I wear?

I'll be doing a blog next week on my favorite looks for the festival but hint: leave the heels at home. ;)

What I Suggest Bringing:

  • Sunblock/sunglasses
  • Cowboy hat/baseball hat
  • Blanket/towel to sit on
  • Money/I.D.
  • Chapstick/lip gloss (sometimes I carry powder & blush with me too if I have the room so I can freshen up, otherwise if my car is within walking distance I just keep it in the car)
  • Spray bottle with fan (it gets hot! especially with that humidity in the south)
  • Pack of gum
  • Bottled water (as long as it's allowed, again festivals vary on rules)
  • Wet napkins/tissues
  • Small Snack (again if allowed)
  •  Especially if you have kids a few band-aids wouldn't hurt to bring just incase.
  • Hair tie(s), if you have long hair you understand and sometimes you just need to bring a back up.
  • Poncho (just incase)
  • You, your friends, and a plan to have fun!
I hope y'all enjoy all the amazing musicians and have a great time with your friends/family! Stay tuned for next weeks blog full of amazing outfits just for the festival season.

I Am Aria Belle. Sass Queen.

Friday, January 16, 2015

Woof Woof! Hello people of the internet! Since my mommy felt low on time this week with school about to start, she asked her co-partner and best friend, Aria Belle (that's me!) for a spot on this weeks blog. Now I know what you're thinking, a dog writing a blog?! What is this craziness?! My mom thought it would be kind of fun to tell you some of my most inner thoughts, and I have to warn you most of them are about food. (can you blame me?!) Even if you're not a dog person, perhaps you could give me a chance because my mommy thinks I am just too cute! so I think you will think so too! Alright enough of the butt sniffing, I meant kissing, or was it sniffing? I often get those confused but hey that's okay let's get to it!

  • I love people I actually just like to bark at people so they pay me attention.
  • When I get said attention I like to get sassy, because I don't like to be touched. Duh.
  • But, if I am bribed with food I am totally okay with that. (I love food!)
  • If you call me, even if you know me, I probably still won't come to you unless you have food. (I tried to warn you)
  • Don't you dare think you are getting attention from my mommy unless it's with me in the middle and I say you're okay. My mommy thinks highly of my opinion, and if I don't like you, she won't either. (mommy made me cross that one out because she said it's not true, but it is)
  • Fine, my mommy will probably like you, but I take up most of her time because I love getting pampered and belly rubs.
  • She also gives me treats! Which reminds me I still have a treat from when she felt bad about leaving me earlier. BRB! enjoy this cute photo of me while I eat this delicious treat!
  • I'm back! Have I mentioned that I like to get into things? even things that I'm not supposed to and blame it on someone breaking in the house. I know mommy never believes me because she asks me why someone would break in just to bite a hole in her underwear.
  • I'm loyal. I'm a mommy's girl, but I love daddy too, either way these are my humans and I love them even if I have to whine my head off for their scraps.
  • It's just obvious if you have a puppy they should get all (mommy's edit) some of your scraps.
  • I yell at ambulances, I know their just doing their job, but my inner wolf tells them to shut up because they should do it quieter. Just saying.
  • I hate the blankey monster, just because it's soft doesn't mean it isn't scary or won't get you, I don't understand why my daddy finds pleasure in laughing at my pain.
  • Sometimes, I "accidentally" go number two off of the pad because I think it's important to keep my mommy & daddy in their place.
  •  I hate car rides unless we get to the drive thru window and I smell the food, I'm automatically a saint.
  • Do not tell me no about getting the heating pad, because I will paw at you and whine at you till you get annoyed and fed up. That's my heating pad and I get it when I want it no matter how bad your bones ache.
  • Don't even worry about getting colors that match for blankets in the living room, we all know they are all gonna come back to me.
  • Last but not least, I'm after all your bottle caps. Don't think you can open a bottled drink just to close it back up because once that sucker is open it's mine!
I am here to tell you I am more than a pet or an animal to my family, no matter how demanding or sassy I get, I will always lick my mommy's tears away, cuddle up with her at night, and eat the top crusts off of the sandwich bread that she won't touch. She is my human and I am her fur baby. We'd be incomplete with out each other. Love your fur kids, treat them with respect, bring them in when it's cold, and be sure of the responsibility when you get them, and always give them extra treats. They have feelings just like humans and sometimes you don't always know when the last time you'll be able to walk them or cuddle up to them. Just like human's their time is precious.

Mommy and I would like to dedicate this blog to my sister, and her first fur baby Angel. I didn't know you for long, but my mommy said that you gave the best hugs. We love you. Rest In Peace.

XOXO Aria Belle

There's A Story in Every Photograph.

Sunday, November 9, 2014

I realize the blog posting is a little late this week, now before I go on I must say this posting has a good reason why it was late. Passion and paying it forward. It's no secret that I've been in love with design and photography since I could practically snap a camera and learn the color wheel. I carried it throughout high school going to an academy school where I not only learned what the district required me to learn but to learn the basics and the fundamentals of this craft. I gained college credit which allowed me to skip a couple classes and ultimately finish in less time. I, of course went to the local college sadly, because of money troubles. My dream was to go to the University of South Carolina. Go Gamecocks! This is the part where my husband disagrees because he's team Clemson, good thing this wasn't a must when he picked his wife. ;) Just kidding but, over the course of the 2 years I went to this college I learned what I was made of and the side of design that I absolutely will never touch. I won't argue being out of school for two-years and not keeping up with this craft I'm very rusty. I grew less and less enthused to go out and take photos of anything other than myself and loved ones, including my furry ones. The reason why I was getting less than enthused was only because I had a bad experience with internship and one of the design teachers that expected four-year work out of two-year students. I also suffered from major anxiety and didn't believe in my work. When you don't believe in your work, it doesn't do well. This was a hard lesson I had to learn early on unfortunately.

Moving out here, honestly was the hardest thing I've had to do because I'm way out of my comfort zone. All my friends, family, (other) animals, and especially connections are all in South Carolina. Don't get me wrong, starting over kind of sounded good, but when you're not yet sure of your next move for your career or when you're gonna get your own vehicle, and start making more friendships it's scary. I remember leaving with tears streaming down my face so scared, then the guy I sat next to on my first plane ride was talking to me about what to kind of expect. I'll be honest I was still scared, but at this point I felt better. (Honestly, I should've told him thank you looking back, so thanks!) I told him how crazy it was that I have never even visited Vegas and here I was going to move in this new place full of gambling and population of over 2 million. Could you even imagine? My marriage and my love for my husband was important to me though. I have been through so many emotions and crazy things this year that I could go on forever, but I won't, moral of the story is never stop loving what you do and always do what you love. I have found when I stopped taking photos, when I stopped all together doing design, or even stopped reading I found myself getting ten times as anxious than I was before. It's an on going battle of everyday. I also kind of lost sight of who I was and resorted in being a lesser version of myself. I'm not proud of who I was and some of the choices I made or didn't make. I am very aware that I was in charge of myself and didn't have a grip on myself, but now I very much do.

I'll give you the cheat sheet version. I have decided to go back to school to become an elementary school teacher. Honestly, I love kids, I'm not ready to make that big commitment yet, although I'm constantly getting baby fever I know it will happen when it's ready to happen. It's nice to dream till then. I am very good at helping people and I have always had those few teachers that made a huge impact on me. Naturally, I'm better in english classes. I think Elementary is also the right grades for me, even though I probably could get yelled at, at some point or another for looking so young they could mistake me as a student. (I'm preparing myself for this, ten bucks says it'll happen on my first week) All joking aside, just because I've chosen a different path for my career doesn't mean I want to stop doing all the creative things that I do. Which is why once we met our friends, Rachel & Joe, we got asked to do couples photos for them. As Rachel and I were sitting on my living room floor she proceeds to tell me that got none of a proposal and none of their wedding. I honestly, fought for my photographer for my wedding (I was proudly her first wedding) and she worked me in last minute for our engagement photos. Kristy Roderick (link to her website is in her name) made us feel very comfortable and her style is favorite. The reason why I chose her, aside from her down-to-earth personality she is one of those people who just know the crucial moments to get. In some sort of way she inspired me to get off my butt and do these photos.

With that being said, I know this was important, and I talked with Rachel about what sort of styles she wanted. So far I've given her 2 teasers. So I'm posting here for a couple more about what they look like, I'm sure she's going to die (of cuteness) when she sees them because I honestly think they are the best work I have done yet. I edited with Adobe Photoshop of course, but I didn't have to do much. They were both so easily photogenic, even though the sun wasn't so much. I decided to do the photography session for free. I also decided since they are really amazing friends that I would print out all the great ones and put them in an album as well as putting them on a disc and giving them the rights to print out even more. I know it's not the most professional way to not give "notes" on how to pose and it is true that I will have to because some people really don't know what looks good and what doesn't, but I've seen some really adorable natural posing when you just let a couple be their own loving selves. I wouldn't do that with everyone, but I had hoped that they felt comfortable with me (and my husband helped) to be able to be themselves. It worked and I am more than happy with how they came out. The reason why I did it free was mainly to pay it forward, normally I would keep quiet because I'm not one to brag about charity but I feel like this would've been a good thing to reach out to those who are afraid to pay it forward. Even just doing a favor shows kindness. There is no such thing as too small of an act of kindness. :)

Hope y'all enjoyed this weeks posting! I want to constantly be inspiring on here to inspire other people. This is how people get creative, and now that you have the idea, get to it. ;)

Welcome!

Thursday, October 16, 2014

Hey Y'all! Welcome to my very first blog posting! (I got here as fast as I could) If you're a friend/family member you know I've been going back and forth with my blog, as well as when it was going to be available for looksies, well that time is today! Since most of you will be passerby's or just generally intrigued people about my content, I figure you should get to know who I am. I've picked out 5 traits about me, good or bad, as well as things I'm passionate about and laid them out here. If you're going to continue reading my blog, these are MUST know facts about me/my life.

  1. I'm an opinionated person. - Why? Well mainly because my thoughts and mind is my own. The knowledge that gets soaked up from the books, the resourceful articles, and lets not forget life's lessons; Let's me realize that I'm more than just someone to smile and be pretty. Let's set the record straight, I don't go as far as Joan Rivers (R.I.P) does when it comes to saying everything that was on her mind, but I do have a stance on issues in this crazy world. I'm not like a  Jehovah's  Witness going from door to door, I only put my input when it's needed and respectfully.
  2. Even though I am an opinionated person, I try to not let the social of social media turn me into a judgemental crazy lady. Seeing as how I was bullied throughout middle/high school. There will be no room for cyber bullying on this blog, towards me or anyone who decides to comment in this blog/follow twitter/ect. This blog is my safe haven for me and for other independent women who are interested in a thing or two of what I'm interested in. (It's National Bullying prevention month, so I figured I'd work this in there.)
  3. When I'm not speaking out against bullies, I'm generally at home taking care of my house hold: My husband (Airforce) and Dog (Aria). I'm a huge supporter of our Military and Animals. What can I say, my dog is my best friend and anyone who would take a bullet for me is alright in my book!
  4. Speaking of books, I'm a writer. In a very loose sense, I'm currently working on my first book and whenever I'm going through something, I reach for the closest journal. It is very often that 99% of the time I am listening to Country music while I'm writing.
  5. Which brings me to my next point, COUNTRY MUSIC IS LIFE. At least, it is my life. There's a song for every thing I've been through in my young age and so far throughout my adulthood. I'm a HUGE concert fan, minus all the drunk people and all the people punching you in your boob every time they move. I will camp out for concert tickets like it's black friday...I'm not even exaggerating. (You'll hear about my obsession with Nashville and Bluebird Cafe a time or two)
So if I haven't scared you off just yet with my need to over share lol then I'm happy you're here!
